Mats Sundin. 500 Goals.

We heard about Mats Sundin scoring his 500th NHL goal earlier this week while we were here in Sweden. Absolutely awesome! Mats - who is under appreciated by the Toronto media - has now earned a place among the hockey elites joining only 33 (or is it 34) others in that category.

He is easily one of the greatest Leafs of all time and one of our all time favorite hockey players.

Jet lagged and dreary eyed, I am going to see if I can name the other 500 Goal scorers by heart so here goes : Pierre Turgeon, Jaromir Jagr, Brendan Shanahan, Joe Nieuwendyk, Joe Sakic. Those were the last 5 to do it I think. The rest in no apparent order : Brett Hull, Bobby Hull, Frank Mahovolich, Guy Lafleur, Jean Beliveau, Maurice Richard, Wayne Gretzky, Mark Messier, Gordie Howe, Mario Lemieux, Stan Makita (such an under-rated player), Phil Esposito (another major under-rated player), Dale Hawerchuk, Dave Anderchuk, Dino Ciccarelli, Joe Mullen. That's 21. Who else...ah...ummm...Marcel Dion, Luc Robitaille, Lanny McDonald (yes, thats right), Steve Yzerman, Pat Verbeek, Jarri Kurri. That's 27.

There are 6 more (maybe 7).

Who knows the rest?...go ahead and try to finish my list but you CAN'T use google because I could have done that too.

First 5 people to get the rest win a spot in the Next Face bragging rights hall of fame.

I could be wrong but I think Mike Bossy and Brian Trottier are on that elite list as well, sorry but I caanot think of 5 more, just 2. I agree with your comments on Sundin, however, like so many others, if you do not win the main prize you fade into oblivion...too bad

Don't google. Wikipedia it.

There are 35 and a few more will hit the 500 number before the end of the season (if they do not retire or get injured).
